Having spent eight years steadily growing in popularity, Band of Horses are hoping to step it up a gear with the follow-up to 2010’s Infinite Arms. Mirage Rock finds the Seattle-formed five-piece teaming up with legendary Beatles and Led Zeppelin-producer Glyn Johns, to deliver a record that’s resolutely rooted in the great American music tradition. There’s a smidgeon of the Eagles about the country-rock on ‘How To Live’, a nod to Summerteeth-era Wilco in the upbeat indie of ‘A Little Biblical’, and spirit-stirring lead single ‘Knock Knock’ is redolent of vintage Kings of Leon. All told, it should sound pretty sweet blaring out on sun-scorched freeways.
