More than just hip hop veterans, the Beastie Boys are a fixture of New York’s cultural landscape as permanent as the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. So, is there really any point in describing Hot Sauce Committee Part Two? As Ad-Rock himself puts it, “Grandpa been rappin’ since ’83” – if the trio were to produce anything other than stupendous, old-skool, party hip hop now they’d have a riot on their hands. Yes, it’s riddled with tongue-in-cheek rhymes; yes, they’re despatched in that inimitable shouty-shouty flow; and yes, it’s filled with infectious hooks and the scratching expertise of Mix Master Mike. A true fan-pleaser if ever we heard one.
