Following his directorial debut with gritty crime drama ‘ill Manors’, Ben “Plan B” Drew’s cast himself in the starring role for the soundtrack of the same name. And, as the searingly satirical title track implied, the full-length is a far cry from the blue-eyed soul of ‘She Said’. Chase and Status, Labrinth and Jay-Z-producer Al Shux are some of the players helping Drew splice hip hop beats, samples and film dialogue with his visceral lyrical depictions of the drug dealers, hookers and gang members running the mean streets of East London. This unsavoury gaggle of ne’er-do-wells probably won’t do much for raising house prices in Forest Gate, but they ought to do wonders for the rapper’s career.
