What we said:
It had all looked so promising for Rival Schools back in 2001. A post-hardcore supergroup, counting members of influential acts Quicksand and Gorilla Biscuits amongst their ranks, the New Yorkers won rave reviews for their blistering debut and then disappeared in a blaze of glory, thanks to the surprise departure of guitarist Ian Love. A decade later, they’re back to clear up unfinished business, and whilst their original fan base may well have grown up and settled down by now, the punk-spirit reigns supreme on Pedals. With this unapologetic blast of fx-heavy rock, they’re amply atoning for leaving their following high and dry, and ought to elicit the devotion of a whole new generation in the process.
