What we said:
American Slang sees New Jersey rockers The Gaslight Anthem journey away from their punk roots, deep into the AOR territory of hero, and sometime collaborator, Bruce Springsteen. Whilst the monster choruses barely constrained within are simply begging for air-punching, stadium-sized audiences, tracks like ‘Boxer’ prove the punk spirit hasn’t deserted them yet. On ‘We Did It When We Were Young’, gravel-voiced front man Fallon may lament “I am older now” but American Slang proves that like fellow veterans The Hold Steady, they too can teach those young ‘uns a thing or two about rock.
