Back in the early 60s, there was a small Sheffield lad called Philip Oakey who spent his days dreaming about the shiny treats in store, come the 21st century. Pet robots, personal space shuttles, widespread use of synthesizers – in Oakey’s mind, these would all be the norm in 2011. Unfortunately for him, only one of those dreams came true. Fortunately for us, and thanks in no small way to Phil and his co-conspirators in visionary synth-pop outfit The Human League, the most important one did. So, with the likes of OMD and Heaven 17 also making comebacks, the time’s right for the release of Credo. And we like to think that young Phil wouldn’t have minded trading A.I. and space-travel for a 30+ year in pop.
