Bilingual folk gamine Keren Ann Zeidel enchanted the European music cognoscenti with her 2000 debut album--a gauzy confection of gentle, strummy guitars and intriguing French lyrics half-sung, half-whispered directly into listeners' ears. Zeidel maintained this intimate sound on her successive recordings, adding some minimal keyboard touches and percussion. Her U.S. debut, NOT GOING ANYWHERE, was released to wide acclaim in 2003, and the release of 2004's NOLITA, as well as a steady series of showcases around New York City, cemented her position as neo-folk's most treasured proponent.
