Musically, The Fame knows where it's coming from, and knows exactly who it's aiming for. Gaga fuses classic pop sensibilities with electronic synths and beats primed for the dancefloor, to make a record that certainly won't re-invent the wheel, but does recreate the sound of 'now' very, very well. Yes, the influences are easy to spot - a bit of Timberlake here, a dash of CSS's attitude there, the recent success of one Ms. Perry looming large over the mix, but let's face it - everyone steals from somewhere (in a musical sense, of course - 7digital does not condone crime, children!), so you might as well take from the best, right? If what you're after is a well-crafted pop album, with enough variation to suit all moods, The Fame ticks all boxes - with tunes to spare. And with a few extra tracks thrown into the UK version, who could possibly resist?
