Sandie Shaw

She was a porcelain-featured teen model and vocalist when pop star Adam Faith discovered, Sandie Shaw, singing at a concert in 1964. Faith's help enabled her to become a sensation in the U.K., with a string of hits--including the Eurovision Song Contest-winning "Puppet on a String.". Her quirky charm--she often went barefoot for concerts and photo shoots)--and novel choice of material endeared her to U.K. audiences. Shaw had retired by the '70s, but enjoyed a brief career rebirth in the mid 1980s as a retro icon, with high profile namechecks from Morrissey and the Jesus & Mary Chain. She even went as far as covering the Smiths track "Hand In Glove", which returned to the Top 30 once again. Retiring from the music industry once more in the '90s, devoting herself to her clinical psychotherapy practice.
