Best known for his rousing gay-pride singalong "Glad to be Gay," British singer-songwriter Tom Robinson burst onto the scene in 1977 following the release of his first album and a subsequent EP containing the aforementioned song. He charmed critics and fans by being as outspokenly left-leaning as any punk, but with the confidence and good looks of a pop star and an ability to write killer hooks as well as trenchant political anthems. Although his subsequent recordings never achieved the acclaim or popularity of his earlier work, Robinson continued to release records into the mid '90s, and toured until 2002. He confounded some of his fans by falling in love with and marrying a woman in 1986.
