Prinzhorn Dance School

"Coming off as both magically attuned and profoundly alone, Tobin Prinz and Suzi Horn bait each other like two sides of the same brain. With stripped-down vocal harmonies that allude to hooks without straining for them." -- pitchforkmedia.com

You Are the Space Invader’ is the third single from Prinzhorn Dance School’s critically acclaimed debut album. In keeping with the last two singles this record is extraordinarily sparse. A pent-up blast ofrock minimalism. Distended drums, strident hook-laden bass, spiky guitars and those distinctive vocals. There is no room on this record for anything that doesn’t work: every word, hi-hat, bass thump and wiry single-string guitar line becomes an event. And, damn it, Prinz and Horn own that shit.

This record shouts out at you from somewhere new. And if you let these songs into your head, you will never get them out. The single package will also include exclusive brand new b-sides plus the Optimo remix. Optimo (JD Twitch and his remix partner Dave Clark) have given a respectfully new take on the track. Undeniably dance floor friendly, this is sure to be top of every dj’s play list. And if it’s not, it should be. "We asked our friends at Optimo to remix our track because when we played at their night in Glasgow they dj-ed afterwards and we couldn’t get off the dance floor." -- Suzi Horn ‘You Are the Space Invader’ is released on October 22nd. Prinzhorn Dance School’s self-titled album is out now.

Shocking Pinks

17th September saw the release of ‘Shocking Pinks’ (aka Nick Harte)’s self-titled debut album. Essentially a remastered merging of Nick’s two previous albums -- originally released on legendary New Zealand label Flying Nun -- the reworking has produced a record that is a more concise statement, and one that DFA are proud to be putting out worldwide.

Brought up in the sparsely populated South Island New Zealand, Nick was rooted into the emerging local music scene that saw seminal bands like The Bats and The Verlaines become global successes. His teenage years were soundtracked by these local heroes, but redefined forever when his mother bought him a copy of My Bloody Valentine’s ‘Loveless’. It was the beginning of a love affair with music that has seen Nick write and release 3 albums (one with a band, the other two on his own), as well as drumming on the forthcoming album from Sub Pop band The Brunettes.

The DFA had followed Nick’s career since his first album and were early in recognizing a kindred aesthetic. They began working with Nick to bring his work to a larger worldwide audience. It’s a record packed with hazy melodies, lo-fi drones and beats, and contains some of the most heartbreakingly melodic and melancholic songs, as well as some of the moodiest and difficult (but ultimately rewarding) sounds you’ll hear all year.

Shocking Pinks recently released a single called ‘End Of The World’ that you can buy now, and you can also pick up a free MP3 of album track 'I Want U Back' at myspace.com/shockingpinks. The next single is ‘Emily’ and it will be released in early 2008.

LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem return with a new single ‘Someone Great’ on October 22nd on DFA/EMI Records taken from the massively acclaimed and already touted by many as an album of the year ‘Sound Of Silver’. With its emotive refrain and rhythmic precision ‘Someone Great’ was recognized critically as an album standout and has become a key part of their live set.

Its release is backed by a spectacular array of new and exclusive mixes of other S.O.S standouts in the form Soulwax (‘Get Innocuous’), Carl Craig (‘Sound of Silver'), Windsurf (‘Us v Them’) and Gucci Soundsystem (‘Time to Get Away’). Award winning Artist/filmmaker Doug Aitken shot an experimental short film for ‘Someone Great’. His work has been exhibited extensively at museums and festivals throughout Europe and the U.S.

The band have recently completed an extensive European festival tour with notable performances at 02 Wireless (as main support to Daft Punk), T-In The Park, Creamfields, Reading/Leeds, Electric Picnic & Connect (as main support to Bjork). LCD are currently preparing for their forthcoming and highly anticipated US tour with The Arcade Fire this Autumn, before returning to the UK for a series of October headline dates:

10/19 Dublin Temple Bar Music Centre
10/20 Dublin Tripod Festival
10/21 Manchester Academy
10/22 Glasgow Barrowlands
10/23 London Brixton Academy

Alongside this LCD Soundsystem will physically release the previously download only and much sort after ‘45:33’ track/continuous mix (James’ iTunes only collaboration with Nike) which is without a doubt one of the most unique pieces of work you will hear all year and finally available on vinyl & CD with extra tracks thrown in for good measure. It’s released on November 12th.
