Strange bedfellows indeed, Eddie Chacon of Ivor Novello winning vocal duo Charles and Eddie has teamed up with his chanteuse wife Sissy Sainte-Marie to create an album of stylish electronic pop. Think Ladytron fronted by Vanessa Paradis; glacial synths collide with minimal techy beats while Sainte-Marie’s breathy vocals weave their way through Chacon’s icy compositions. These new songs hint at Chacon’s past successes, but his songwriting suits this style of robotic pop down to a tee. Experience yourself this amazing release with a free MP3 of album track The Avenues.
Capitalizing on the global beats scene that they are both credited with helping to pioneer, The Count & Sinden release Mega Mega Mega – a white-knuckle ride through the strange and loud world of bass music – and taking in genres as diverse as Dancehall, Funky House, Electro and Cumbia it’s easy to forget that you’re listening to a single album. To celebrate this big release we’re offering you a FREE MP3 of wobbly banger Elephant 1234. Enjoy.
Having appeared on abstract LA beatsmith Flying Lotus’ Reset EP a few years ago, Andreya Triana has become a solo star in her own right, following her achingly beautiful collaborations with fellow Ninja Tune signee Bonobo on his latest album, the sublime Black Sands. Lost Where I Belong very much continues Black Sands’ path with its understated acoustics, unorthodox instrumentation and tastes of Northern Soul, Jazz and Trip-Hop in the production mix. To celebrate the release of this beautiful album we have chosen a tune that takes Triana full circle, the Flying Lotus remix of title track, Lost Where I Belong.
What are they putting in the water in Sweden? We have yet another ethereal, avant-garde group to attempt to pigeonhole and ‘understand’ (who aren’t members of the Knife). Rivers is the third release from Gothenburg’s husband and wife duo Wildbirds and Peacedrums, and it’s a collection of two previously released EP’s, Retina and Iris. Their coming together is interesting as they are of vastly differing styles; Retinas songs have a distinctly gothic feel to them, with sinister-sounding choirs imbuing tracks like Tiny Holes In This World with an icy gloom, while Iris’ tracks are lead by the curious sound of steel drums – doesn’t feel like carnival though, that’s for sure.
