The end of the year is upon us so our music team have been busy compiling lists of their top albums of 2013.
This expert group of editors include individuals from 6 different nationalities, contrasting genre preferences and all unsurprisingly have differing personal tastes. On a daily basis they are busy talking to international labels, reading about new and upcoming artists making buzz all around the world and are always keeping an eye on what local music markets are tapped into. We love to see them disagree on the important albums of our year. There are a few releases on here that look like they were received well across countries and continents, but it is impressive how many local gems reign over global phenoms. This diversification of music preferences between groups, whether national or conceptual, inspires us to look away from cookie cutter industry expectations.
At the same time global digital catalogs and globalisation in general have made the concept of a world-wide top album list that much more feasible. It’d be interesting to know if the team could come to a consensus on the best album across the globe, these appear in 3 or more localised stores:
