To our minds, the truly refreshing thing about Rustie’s long-awaited debut for Warp is that he’s eschewed the frequently serious and moody aesthetic favoured by his peers to deliver leftfield electronica that’s simultaneously innovative and fun. Drawing upon his influences in the UK bass scene, Rustie uses his production flair to pull off disjointed arrangements that fuse feel-good, 90s-sounding synths and playful Pokemon-like samples. Definitely one for fans of Hudson Mohawke’s Butter.
