7digital What we said: Considering her work with Appalachian-style folk trio Mountain Man, Amelia Meath’s output in Sylvan Esso represents a bit of a U-turn. Fortunately, her lithe, Feist-meets-Regina Spektor vocals sound even more striking writhing around Nick Sanborn’s fractured beats and minimalist electronics, than they did a capella. Pairing jump-rope chants with handclaps and bruising dubstep subs on ‘Hey Mami’, and a hip hop swagger with delicate, musical-box chimes on ‘Coffee’, this is a carefully-considered, skilfully-constructed debut.
