7digital What we said: The Kills have spent over a decade carving a name for themselves as the consummate exponents of sleazy garage rock. So whilst anyone expecting a U-turn four albums down the line might be missing the point, that doesn’t mean there are no surprises in store on Blood Pressures. True, they still like it dark and mean but, as the gospel backing vocals on lead single ‘Satellite’ implied, they now like it soulful to boot. Their trademark minimalist production has been sidelined too, in favour of a richer palette of crunching guitar textures and propulsive live percussion, all without sacrificing their enigmatic sonic menace – in fact, the terrific swagger of ‘Heart Is A Beating Drum’ ranks up there as one of their finest moments to date.
