New Ubuntu phone – flash sale!

PARTNERSHIPS

We are happy to share the news that our affiliate partner Ubuntu have launched their first ever phone, for sale throughout Europe.

Ubuntu were one of our first ever API partners at 7digital, as we powered the Ubuntu One Music Store for Canonical Ltd. We are hugely proud to support them and excited to see the progress of their new venture.

The Ubuntu phone is called the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and is built by Spanish company BQ. Be sure you’re following their Twitter handles though, as followers of the @ubuntu and @bqreaders, will be the first to be alerted when the Aquaris E4.5 UE becomes available to buy! The limited run of phones in this first flash sale, actually sold out within an the hour! Rumour has it though, that in March, the phone will be fully available to the public.

Jane Silber, CEO at Canonical comments; “The launch of the first Ubuntu smartphones is a significant milestone.  The new experience we deliver for users, as well as the opportunities for differentiation for manufacturers and operators, are a compelling and much-needed change from what is available today. We’re excited that a rising star like BQ has recognised this opportunity and is helping us make it a reality.”

We will have both Bq and Meizu phones running Ubuntu at our booth at Mobile World Congress Hall 8.1 F41, in the App Planet Hall. If you are at MWC stop by and see them first hand!
