7digital Appoints Paul Shannon as VP of Technology

Press Release

London, UK 29 June 2014 - 7digital- a leading open digital music platform, have announced the appointment of Paul Shannon as the new VP of Technology.

Paul joined 7digital in the summer of 2011 as a developer in the API development team. Before joining 7digital he had previously worked in the legal and mobile industries. He was a pivotal member of the team that adopted Agile, Lean and XP practices at vehicle finance and tech company, Codeweavers Ltd, during his seven years there.

Shortly after joining 7digital, Paul formed and led the Content Ingestion Team and was appointed Assistant VP of Technology in 2012. He worked closely with the previous VP of Technology to grow the team and help them scale the API platform to support the changing technology and music landscape.

7digital CEO Simon Cole commented, “I'm really pleased that we have very quickly been able to promote from within and with such immediate success.  It shows the strength of the team that Rob Bowley built for us here at 7digital and for that and all his dedication we thank him and wish him well."

Paul Shannon added, "I'm tremendously excited to take on this new role and overwhelmed with the support from both 7digital’s Senior Management Team and Technology Team. My initial plan is to develop a Technical Strategy Team formed of existing group members allowing them to get more involved in the direction of our team and API platform. I'm particularly looking forward to the new opportunities we'll find in digital music and radio, and want to make cutting edge technology the forefront of all our new adventures."

Paul is a regular speaker at universities and conferences around Europe. He focuses on topics around process improvement, testing, recruitment and team dynamics. He has also contributed to 3 books with chapters on his experience of adopting quality driven software practices. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham.
