Image-Driven Radio App Moodsnap Launches with 7digital and Twenty20 Partnerships
PRESS RELEASE
Boston, MA 24 June, 2014 – Moodsnap — The Image-Driven Radio App that delivers mood-based music stations inspired by images announces its launch and partnership with 7digital, a world leading, open digital music platform. Following the success of Moodsnap’s Spotify premium app, the radio service partnered with 7digital to bring the app to a larger audience. Today the app becomes broadly accessible in the United States as a free download on iOS devices.
In the spirit of Moodsnap’s community-curated experience of “amplified artwork”, the company also announces its release-week collaboration with Twenty20, a creative photo marketplace, for a series of thematic photo competitions. Moodsnap will select winning image submissions from users under each theme, and use them to curate music stations.
Moodsnap now offers two versions under one roof – iOS users in the U.S. can now freely access the streaming service in a non-interactive environment, similar to free tiers offered by other major DMCA-compliant radio style streaming apps. This app is powered by 7digital’s robust APIs, which will provide music streams, metadata, and royalty reporting for the service.
As with before, logging in with Spotify Premium credentials still gives access to a full-featured interactive experience, which includes unlimited song skips and additional on-demand listening features. Both versions allow users to personalize their listening experiences, suggest songs based on how the images make them feel, and see their community influence rise as other listeners like their song pairings.
Moodsnap Co-Founder and CEO David Blutenthal adds the following statement:
“We’ve learned a lot since our initial release in September and what users wanted most was access. Expanding distribution freely across iOS is the next step in the product’s evolution and in our cross-platform expansion plans. Our vision is to amplify a world of imagery on an open platform, in order to give music consumers a more instinctual, emotionally connected and multi-sensory discovery experience.”
7digital CEO Simon Cole comments, “We are passionate about next-generation radio experiences and believe Moodsnap has a unique offering. The obvious next step for a smart radio service like Moodsnap is to open up access for users on different operating systems and we are happy to have them innovating and expanding through use of our digital music and radio platform.”
A natural cross-pollination, the release-week collaboration between Moodsnap and Twenty20 breaks new ground, demonstrating how authentic and emotive photography can be not only crowd-sourced, but also used as a device for musical storytelling. In a series of thematic challenges titled – Emotion, Concerts, Relax, Family, Wonder, Feminine, & Happiness – Twenty20 users submit and vote on images that best capture each theme. Moodsnap will then select winning images and publish them as socially curated music stations.
